No. Polymarket has no demo account, no demo mode, and no paper trading feature. The US app that opened to everyone on May 12, 2026 trades real dollars on a regulated exchange, and the offshore site trades real USDC. To practice the same YES or NO mechanics free, PaperPicks gives you a $100 paper bankroll at live prediction-market odds with no signup and a permanent record.
Does Polymarket have a demo account?#
No. There is no Polymarket demo account, no practice balance, and no paper trading mode, and the 2026 US relaunch did not add one. Every trade on the platform costs real money, so the free options are all third party: a browser simulator, or a paper trading app with live odds and a record that follows you.
The answer does need one update, because there are two Polymarkets now. Since May 2026 the US app is open to anyone 18 or older and funds with plain dollars. The offshore site most people picture still runs on crypto and still blocks Americans. Neither version has a practice mode, but what you would be practicing for looks different than it did a year ago.
For contrast, Kalshi at least runs an official web demo with mock funds (we cover it in the Kalshi paper trading guide). Polymarket has nothing like it. Its docs describe real collateral, live order books, and onchain settlement, and a practice environment appears nowhere in them.
What changed in May 2026#
Polymarket's US comeback finished rolling out this spring. The waitlist, which had grown past 1.4 million people since the invite-gated relaunch in late 2025, ended on May 12, 2026. Signup is open to US residents 18 and older. The iOS app shipped first and is still the only US interface, with Android and web access following.
The machinery underneath is what makes it legal. The US product runs on QCEX, a CFTC-registered exchange Polymarket bought for $112 million in July 2025. That registration lets it list event contracts to US persons, under the same framework Kalshi has traded on since 2021.
Funding is the practical difference for anyone who bounced off the old version. Polymarket without crypto used to be a contradiction in terms. On the US app it is the only way in: deposits are ACH transfers and debit cards inside the regulated exchange, with no wallet and no USDC anywhere in the flow.

The offshore site did not open up. It still runs on USDC-backed collateral on the Polygon blockchain, and it stays geo-blocked for US residents under Polymarket's 2022 settlement with the CFTC. Reaching it over a VPN violates the terms of service, and accounts flagged as US-based can be closed with positions force-liquidated. A winning trade does you no good if the platform unwinds it before settlement.
The version a US resident can legally use is the dollar-funded QCEX exchange, currently iOS only. The offshore crypto version stays blocked. Both are real money, all the time.
Still no Polymarket demo mode#
The relaunch was the obvious moment to ship a practice mode, and it did not happen. There is no demo balance on the US app, no testnet on the offshore site, no sandbox for developers. If you want to feel out a trade, the platform's answer is to fund an account.
"Just trade small" is the workaround people suggest, and it is not free practice. You pay the spread on every entry, and a meaningful sample is 50 to 100 trades. Even at $2 a position, being wrong 30 times while you learn what a 70¢ favorite really means adds up. Worse, a $2 position teaches you nothing about sizing, because no outcome hurts.
A browser-based Polymarket simulator is a fair first taste, and a few exist that let you place mock trades against Polymarket-style books from a desktop tab. What they tend to lack is the part that changes behavior: a record you cannot reset, on your phone, priced by live markets, with other people watching.
You cannot practice on Polymarket itself at any price. Practice happens off the platform, and the tool you pick decides whether that practice is honest.
Practice Polymarket trading with fake money#
You cannot use Polymarket with fake money, so PaperPicks rebuilds the same trade with the money switched off. It is a free iPhone app with a $100 paper bankroll and 7,000+ live markets. Sports has the deepest coverage (NFL, NBA, MLB, soccer, UFC, F1, tennis, golf, cricket), alongside politics, economics, crypto prices, and entertainment.

One honest note about the odds. PaperPicks mirrors Kalshi-sourced event contracts, not Polymarket's own book. The flagship markets overlap heavily across the two exchanges (our Kalshi vs Polymarket guide maps the differences), and the skill is identical because the instrument is identical: a binary contract priced between 1¢ and 99¢ that settles at $1 or $0.
What transfers directly:
- Prices are probabilities. A contract at 24¢ is the crowd calling a 24% chance. When news lands, the price moves under your position, exactly like the real thing.
- Settlement is real. Positions resolve when the underlying market resolves, not when an admin flips a switch. The payout arrives as a push notification.
- The bankroll is scarce. $100 and no reset button. Sizing only becomes a skill when busting is possible.
- The record is permanent. P&L is scored server-side. A month of results is evidence, not a mood.

There is no signup and no KYC. Accounts are anonymous and exist the moment you open the app. And because trading alone breeds bad habits, the social layer is built in: public profiles, following, tailing or fading other people's picks, and server-scored leaderboards, so your results sit next to everyone else's.
Polymarket real trading vs PaperPicks practice#
| Polymarket | PaperPicks | |
|---|---|---|
| Money | Real dollars (US app) or USDC (offshore) | $100 paper bankroll |
| Access | US signup, 18 and older, iOS first | Free iPhone app, no signup |
| Setup | Account plus ACH or debit funding | None, anonymous |
| Odds | Live order books | Live public market odds |
| Payoff | $1 or $0 at resolution | Same, in paper |
| Cost of a bad read | Your deposit | Your record |
| Practice mode | None | The whole app |
Polymarket wins exactly one row, and it is the row that eventually matters: real profit. The order is the whole game. Paper first, dollars after proof.
When real Polymarket is the right choice#
Paper trading is preparation, and preparation has a finish line. In my book, real Polymarket makes sense when three things are true at once: you are in the US and 18 or older, the deposit would not change your month if it went to zero, and your paper record says you win somewhere specific. Thirty settled positions in one niche, still green after a month, is a reasonable bar. One hot weekend is not.

Two things people miss. Browsing the real app is already free: install it, watch the books, read resolution rules, deposit nothing. The only thing you cannot do without funding is trade, and trading is where the learning is. Second, a red paper record is information at zero cost. Roughly three quarters of retail prediction-market traders lose money, and a simulator is how you find out which quarter you are in before the market bills you for the answer.
Start in about 30 seconds#
- Download PaperPicks from the App Store. Free, iPhone only.
- Open it. An anonymous account is created on the spot, with nothing to fill in.
- Pick a live market, tonight's game or the next Fed print, and buy YES or NO with paper money.
- Hold or exit as the odds move. When the real market settles, so does your position, and the $100 either grows or teaches.
When the record says you are sharp, fund the real app knowing exactly what kind of trader is showing up. Until then, the mistakes are free here.
